At Expat Focus, we like to be on the lookout for resources around the web that could help prospective expats adjust to their new countries. Today, we’re taking a look at Jamaica and some of the sites that might be useful for expats there.
Jamaica Observer
http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/
One of Jamaica’s main news sites that covers everything from business to sport and lifestyle, Jamaica Observer is a good first port of call to find out what’s been going on in the country recently. There is also a Classifieds section which is a useful place to seek out second-hand goods.
Expat Capi
http://expatcapi.com/
A heavily photo-based blog written by an American expat in Montego Bay. The blog features articles on raising a child in Jamaica, local places to eat and drink, and thoughts on day to day life in Jamaica. The posts tend to be short and to the point, making them perfect for reading with a cup of tea whilst dreaming about starting your own Jamaican expat adventure.
Jamaica Information Service
http://jis.gov.jm/
An official Jamaican government website, the JIS is the place to go if you’re looking for official documents, legal stances, practical advice for fire and hurricane safety, and information about national industry and infrastructure.
Jamaica Max
http://www.jamaicamax.com/
Max is currently spending two years travelling across Jamaica, and uses his blog to write about his experiences. The photos are beautiful and will make you want to pack up and move there immediately, if you’re not already an expat in Jamaica. Max’s stories are amusing and entertaining, featuring updates on everything from the stunning beaches to the best places to find local cuisine.
Jamaicans.com
http://jamaicans.com/
A useful site for visitors and expats alike, Jamaicans.com includes a wide-ranging set of information, from suggestions for things to do – alone or with children – traditional Jamaican recipes, and updates on local news that are written in a friendly, accessible style. The ‘Commentary’ section is particularly interesting as it gives updates on local issues from the points of view of people who are already living in Jamaica.
We’re always on the lookout for more sites to feature – if you run a blog about living in Jamaica, leave us a link in the comments and we’ll take a look!
