At Expat Focus, we like to be on the lookout for resources around the web that could help prospective expats adjust to their new countries. Today, we’re taking a look at Ireland and some of the bloggers who write about living there.
Magnumlady
http://magnumlady.com/
Magnumlady writes about her experiences living in Ireland, with fantastic photos illustrating each post. A winner of the annual Tweetiepic awards, this blog will give you a great insight into some of the sights and experiences you’ll discover once you’ve moved to the Emerald Isle. The ‘Rants’ category is also a good read, adding the more challenging aspects of the expat experience and providing a refreshingly honest point of view. Ultimately, the site is part diary, part guide for expats, both of which will prove useful if you’ve recently moved to Ireland or are thinking of doing so.
Rachel In Ireland
http://rachelinireland.com/
If you’re particularly picky about blog layouts, Rachel In Ireland’s site will be a pleasure to view. Cleanly presented, with amazing pictures of the Irish landscape, it provides a diary of Rachel’s experiences and reviews of places and events around the country. The ‘Explore’ category provides glimpses into a variety of other countries too, and if you prefer watching videos to reading long-form posts, take a look at the ‘Vlog’ section where Rachel shows readers bits of her day to day life through video clips.
The Narcissistic Expat Diaries
http://iowa2ireland.blogspot.co.uk/
Expat bloggers in Ireland seem to spend a lot of time blogging photos of the natural beauty of the landscape around the country, and Cory & Sara of The Narcissistic Expat Diaries are no exception to this rule. If you’re moving to Ireland from the US, take a look at the posts about Cory and Sara settling into their new home – there were quite a few cultural differences that startled them at first, and reading through this section may save you some confusion!
French Foodie In Dublin
http://www.frenchfoodieindublin.com/
Originally from the Loire Valley, Ketty moved to Ireland in 2004, taking up residence in Dublin where she lives with her Irish husband. As the title indicates, the blog is mainly devoted to food finds in and around the city, but the ‘Life’ category also provides an insight into life as an expat in general, and the ‘Events’ section includes details of non food related things to do in Ireland as well. If you want to move to Ireland and are looking for great photos to show you exactly what you’ll be arriving to, this is the perfect blog to explore: Ketty’s posts will make you feel at home (and somewhat hungry), taking you on a virtual tour of Dublin’s best offerings.
Love Isn’t For Everyone
http://www.loveisnotforeveryone.com/
The refreshingly – and sometimes brutally – honest diary of an expat single mother living in Ireland, having moved from Italy at age 25. Featuring posts about health, personal dilemmas, friendship, the Irish countryside, travelling, and the occasional video diary in Italian, Aurora’s blog is a wonderful mixture of the prosaic and the personal. Aurora’s sunny personality shines through in every post, and reading her blog feels like receiving a letter from a friend. If you’re thinking about moving abroad – especially to Ireland – with children in tow, Love Isn’t For Everyone is a must-read.
