Getting There By Rail

United Arab Emirates (UAE) - Getting There By Rail

To cover the approximately 5,500km between London and Dubai by train is not going to be easy and the end of the journey would need to be completed by bus and ferry. Quite obviously there is no direct or even semi-direct rail link between the UK and the UAE.

If you really want to do this you will need changes trains lots of times, and the first part goes something like this:

Eurostar from London to Brussels
Brussels to Munich
Munich to Budapest
Budapest to Belgrade
Belgrade to Istanbul
Istanbul to Tehran

Now you have to get the bus, it only takes 21 hours for the next bit - Tehran to Bandar-e-Abbas - but then Dubai is in sight, well nearly!

The ferry from Bandar-e-Abbas goes to Sharjah and Dubai both about 24o km’s away.

In Europe train travel is usually faster and more comfortable, in the Middle East buses are a better choice.

Within the Emirates there is a planned national rail network and the developer, Etihad Rail, are anticipating 1,200 km`s of track being laid connecting all seven Emirates to help facilitate the movement of passengers and freight. Anticipated dates for the first phase 2013, the second phase 2016 and completion by 2017.
