Outside work, there are excellent social and recreational facilities for expatriates.

Hong Kong is a vibrant city with many nightlife hotspots, and expatriates frequent hotspots such as Lan Kwai Fong and Soho on Hong Kong Island, and Knutsford Terrace in Tsim Sha Tsui. Bars and clubs that cater to expatriates can be costly. They are the most common hangouts for single expatriates. Activities and classes for choirs, amateur dramatics and other interest clubs are also good meeting grounds for singles.

For accompanying spouses, the American Women Association of Hong Kong (AWA) is an organization of international women who support Hong Kong charities and schools through community service and monetary grants. The group also enjoys educational and social activities. The Hong Kong Women's Forum is a networking group targeted at working/non-working expat women.

The Hong Kong arts scene is diverse. There are annual international and Asian arts festivals. The arts are heavily subsidized in Hong Kong and is a great way of getting to experience the local culture.
