Swisscom is the national and only provider of fixed landlines for telephone services. If you would like to install a fixed telephone line, you must contact Swisscom. In addition, Swisscom also provides cable TV, internet and mobile phone services. Call their Customer Service Hotline at 0800 800 800 (toll-free) for fixed telephone line, internet and Bluewin TV. Dial 0800 55 64 64 for mobile services. If you are calling from outside Switzerland, the number to call is +(41) 848 800 8 11. Once you have set up a fixed landline, you are free to switch to another providers such as Tele2.

For mobile phone subscriptions (pre-paid or post paid), there are three mobile phone service providers : (1) Swisscom Mobile, (2) Sunrise and (3) Orange. Sunrise and Orange are providers of both mobile phone and internet services. Swisscom's internet services is called Bluewin.

For specialized internet services, you can try Green, an internet company that offers hosting, business emails, datacenter solutions and so on. Visit their website for more details and contact information. Another option is the Geneva-based internet service provider, DFi (Developpeurs de solutions internet). DFi provides both ADSL or broadband for internet connection, in addition to hosting and other IP services that are suitable both for residential and home-based businesses. There is a WiFi community network available in the city of Geneva by FON. To find out more about the location of the hotspots and other information, visit website www.geneve-fon.org.

Television & Radio

Geneva-based Television Suisse Romande (TSR) is the main broadcaster for French television programs in the Suisse-Romande region (TSR 1 and TSR 2). Most programs are in French to cater to the French-speaking viewers, but there are Italian and English programs as well. To switch to the original language, look out for the VO ("version originale") in the television listings. There is also France-based TV5 Monde and local channel le man bleu. You can watch live parliament sessions of the Geneva canton on Léman Bleu. If you like and miss American "reality" television like "Rescue 911", you might want to tune into "Secours en montange" (literally mountain rescue) for a Swiss interpretation of Rescue 911.

The cable network provider in Geneva is Télégenève (Tel: 0844 82 21 23). Check in advance to see if the house or apartment you live in has cable television installed.

Television and Radio licenses are mandatory and payable yearly. The license fees are collected by Billag ("organe suisse d'encaissement des redevances de réception des programs radio et television"). For more information, refer to www.billag.com.

Postal Services

Swiss Post is the national postal courier in Switzerland. Take note that in Switzerland, a PO box (usually known as "boîte postale" in France-French) is refered to as a "case postale", or "CP".
