Interviews, Financial Advice And Finding A Constant Summer

It's been a busy week here at ExpatFocus. We've been interviewing expats from all around the world, and putting together our article titles for next month.

Is there a topic you'd like to see us write about? Let us know in the comments!

Our first interview this week was with Sibylle Eschapasse, a Parisian expat who works in the UN's Counter Terror office in New York. We also interviewed Sasha Conlan, whose company, The Barbie Girls, imports quality meat and fish products into Singapore.    more ...

Are you over the holiday indulgences yet? Have you spent the first week of January exercising furiously and drinking green smoothies, only to cave in and order a pizza on day seven?

Well, to keep you occupied while you're munching your way through your resolution-breaking snacks, here's what we've been up to over at ExpatFocus.    more ...

Truffles, Passports and Playlists

I can't believe it's the end of the week already. As another week draws to a close, here at ExpatFocus we're winding down for the holiday period, but we still have a load of great content for you to read.

Our columnists have been busy: Marla Sink Druzgal writes about losing the extra-large American passport; Meredith discusses New Year's Eve traditions in Germany; and June Finnigan talks truffles, olive oil and the Pope's visit in her latest reflections on life in Tuscany.    more ...

Winter Photos, Expat Experiences, And Being Called A 'Trailing Spouse'

Have you moved abroad for your partner's job and ended up being called a "trailing spouse"? How does it make you feel? Expat Focus columnist Flavia Holman shares her thoughts.

Other submissions this week include Clara Wiggins' column about living a multicultural life, an experience from British expat Adele de Caso, and an interview with the headteacher of Geneva English School.    more ...

Lost Cities, Home Renovations and Fireworks Displays

We now have twenty great submissions for our winter photo competition and we'll be sharing them in an article early next week: watch this space!

This week, as always, we have a load of useful information for you. For example, what if you want to go away for a while but aren't sure what to do with your house and pets while you're away? Here's how to find a great housesitter.    more ...

International Thanksgiving Recipes and a Winter Photo Challenge!

First things first: Happy Thanksgiving! We've rounded up some recipe suggestions from around the world. Whether you're looking for turkey, vegetarian options, side dishes, desserts or drinks, we've got you covered.

But it's not all fun and games when you move abroad. There's still the bureaucracy and paperwork to deal with. That's why we've put together this guide to embassies and consulates.    more ...

Great Coffee And Unusual Loos

Recently we've been experimenting with a new kind of article: one that includes several destinations in one go. Previously we've focused more on specific countries - health risks for expats in Venezuela, for instance - but now we're trying something a little more general.

Many of our readers have moved all around the world, and some haven't started moving yet and are still deciding where to go. Plus, it's fun sometimes to read about what's going on around the world.

So, what do we have for you this week?    more ...

Language Learning and Quiet Destinations

It's been a quietish week over on ExpatFocus as both the editor and community manager have been away. The editor - that's me - got stuck in a house in the middle of nowhere in Scotland with limited wifi, and then on a train with no wifi at all. Which in 2015 feels a bit like being stuck without air.

But we'll be back in full force from next week, and in the meantime we did still manage to publish some posts for you. If you have any ideas for future articles you'd like to see on ExpatFocus, let me know on scar @ expatfocus.com    more ...

Sayings From Around The World And How To Find A Job As An Expat

It's all change here at Expat Focus: this week we've been trialling a new type of article for you. These ones are longer than before, coming in at about 2,000 words each, and should hopefully be more informative and relevant to more people.

We've got a new team of writers on board to help bring this content to you. Would you be interested in writing for us? Email scar @ expatfocus.com for more details.

So, what have we been writing about this week?    more ...

Culture Shock, Chilean Linguistics And Catatumbo Lightning

This post is coming to you from London, where we have probably the final couple of sunny days before autumn properly gets into full swing. This week was the equinox, which means we're technically in autumn already: season of woolly jumpers, mugs of hot chocolate and switching to the winter duvet.

What's your favourite thing about autumn?

Luckily for us at ExpatFocus, we can live vicariously in permanently sunny places through our articles. Jealous yet? But wait! You can too!    more ...
