Expats in Australia hit by lifetime allowance

British expats are among those living in Australia who could see their plans for retirement being derailed following legislation that limits how much they can save into their pensions.

That's because the Australian government has brought in a lifetime allowance cap for pensions of £250,000 or A$500,000. In comparison, the lifetime pension savings allowance in the UK is £1 million - it was, until last month, £1.25m.    more ...

British expats struggle to get BTL mortgages

British expats looking to invest in property with buy to let mortgages have a mixed environment with lenders leaving the market.

NatWest and RBS have announced they are no longer offering mortgages to expats and this extends to current expat customers wanting to increase their borrowings.

Firms worried over global prospects

A global survey of employers' confidence reveals that more than half of companies around the world are looking at freezing or cutting employment and just 14% are taking on more staff, according to a survey.

The Global Economic Conditions Survey from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) says that business confidence was at its lowest in the first quarter of this year than it has been at any point in the past four years.    more ...

The world's biggest ever data leak has spurred financial investigators into action to find out who has been hiding money in tax havens to avoid taxes and hide their wealth, with expats set to face closer scrutiny over their offshore assets.

The action follows the leaking of 11 million documents from Mossack Fonseca, a Panamanian law firm, which has been accused of helping clients launder their money, avoid taxes and dodge sanctions.    more ...
