Deborah, Jon and Myles
Who are you?

We are a family of three – Deborah, Jon and Myles (11) – originally from Toronto, Canada but our home is in London, UK.

Where, when and why did you move abroad?

We moved to Bangalore, India in September 2013. The timing and location were ideal for us. Deborah had been director of a campaigning charity in London and was looking for more opportunities to build something ‘on the ground’ rather than fighting politicians. Jon had recently received an MA in Creative Writing and was craving time to write on a full-time basis. Myles was old enough to appreciate living abroad and young enough to move without too many home ties.   more ...

Who are you?

I am Eli, 1/4 of a Greek Norwegian family. We have lived in Norway and Greece, and I have always been working full time.

Where, when and why did you move abroad?

Summer 2012 we (husband, 2 teenagers and I) left Europe and moved to Mumbai, India, because my husband was sent here with his job. Before we moved, we visited Mumbai, to look for schools, housing- and check out if this was a place we wanted to live:-)   more ...

What do you do when you are a divorced 50 year-old mother of two, whose empty nest has suddenly materialized?

Well, after visiting an ashram in South India in early 2011, I accepted a job in the city of Chennai (formerly Madras) as a software trainer. I packed my bags and moved to Southeast Asia to start my life anew. I was determined to strengthen my spiritual path but also needed to be employed to live in India full-time, and I did this by obtaining a hard-to-get Indian work visa.

I am a former suburban soccer mom and technical writer from Boulder, Colorado who has plunged headfirst into a dizzying new life and high-tech career in the chaotic city of Chennai, but I am managing to keep one foot in the ashram that brought me here in the first place.   more ...

Dave and Jenny, Delhi

Dave and Jenny
We're Dave and Jenny, two ex-New Yorkers who felt that the Big Apple just wasn't big enough. And so it was off to India...!

We left in November, 2007, for Dave's job: he worked for an advertising agency, and they needed some help in the Delhi office.

What challenges did you face during the move?

All of them, I think.   more ...
