At Expat Focus, we like to be on the lookout for resources around the web that could help prospective expats adjust to their new countries. Today, we’re taking a look at Barbados and some of the bloggers who write about living there.

Yvonne is a freelance magazine journalist originally hailing from the UK but currently living in Barbados with her family. Her blog is nicely laid out and heavily photo-based, which allows readers a glimpse of what daily life really looks like in the Caribbean. If you’re a parent wondering what it would be like to live on a paradise island with a young family, Three Kinds of Sunshine will help you to understand that – it’s filled with updates about life with children, including the differences between parenting styles from the UK and Barbados.
My Rustic Bajan Garden
http://benthamshouse.blogspot.co.uk/
If you’re a gardening enthusiast who’s thinking about taking up island life, this is the blog for you! A regular description of the various plants and flowers growing in Helen’s garden, accompanied by pictures of the different species that can be found around Barbados, will no doubt make you want to move there and set up your own outdoor space as soon as possible. Helen is an expat from Grenada and is married to a retired teacher from Florida, and her blog will prove inspirational to anyone who wants to set up their own Barbadian garden.
Barbados Ocean View
http://barbadosoceanview.com/blog/
The kind of site that’s equally useful for expats and people who are just visiting the island, Barbados Ocean View includes reviews of local restaurants and destinations along with explanations of day to day life in Barbados. The blog is run by a couple who own – and rent out – a home overlooking the beach, which means that once you’ve read through the articles and decided you want to live their life, you can actually do so! A must-read if you’re visiting Barbados for any length of time.
Women Who Live On Rocks
http://womenwholiveonrocks.com/
A site that focuses on island life generally, Women Who Live On Rocks is a collaborative project between several women based mainly in the Caribbean. Despite the idyllic setting, the blog doesn’t glorify island living but gives a realistic view of what it’s like to be in each place, either as an expat or as a local. There is also an extensive blog list in the sidebar which gives extra inspiration for those who just can’t get enough articles about island living.
Those are our recommended expat blogs for today. Do you write about being an expat? Let us know in the comments!
